Red Brick Fridays

Have you been wanting to come uptown and support local but the idea of going in and out of businesses, possibly being in close contact with other people, makes you nervous? Understandable! While we're excited that things are opening back up, we understand the need to continue following safety precautions such as physical distancing.

That's why we're excited for Red Brick Fridays, an outdoor experience that allows you to support your favorite Oxford businesses while keeping your distance from others in attendance! That's right, during Red Brick Fridays the city will be "expanding" the sidewalks by closing ALL of High Street (Beech St. to Campus Ave.) so that you can walk right down the middle of the road on our iconic red bricks.

Participating businesses will set up at tables on the sidewalks and in parking spots on High Street with select items for sale, from food to retail! We're encouraging each business to play some music from their individual tables so as you walk from one end of High Street to the other, going table to table, you'll enjoy a unique, ever-changing musical experience!

Red Brick Fridays will take place three times this summer on the last Friday of each month, from 5 PM - 9 PM:

  • June 26th
  • July 31st
  • August 7th

Enjoy a drink while you walk!

Oxford's Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) will be in effect beginning Friday, June 26th which means you'll be able to walk into a bar or restaurant, get a drink to go (in a DORA cup, only) and then enjoy it as you walk around outside (within the DORA boundaries).

A couple of things to keep in mind when participating in the DORA:

  • There will be compost bins uptown so we ask that you please compost your DORA cups rather than throw them in the garbage.
  • DORA cups are SINGLE USE. Please finish your drink, compost your cup, and then get a new cup from a participating business.

For more information on the DORA program, please read the City's website here.

Walk, ride, or drive!

If you live close by and are physically able, we always recommend walking or riding your bike in order to avoid having to park! But if you are driving, there are plenty of places to park uptown even with High Street being closed. The map below indicates some of your different options for metered parking! All meters are enforced until 6 PM.
